East Bay Photo Collective
EBPCO is a non-profit public arts organization in Oakland, California providing education, inspiration and community through the art and craft of photography.
Creative Community
EBPCO hosts a series of free monthly programs promoting creative connection for everyone.
Our online Show & Tell program is an open and supportive forum for photographers to exhibit and discuss their work, and has proven to be a great starting point for emerging artists.
In-person Photo Walks and Photo Socials bring a broad spectrum of photographers together to inspire each other and share knowledge.
All Creative Community programs are free and open to all.
Gallery
Our Oakland Photo Workshop Gallery has exhibited 200+ local artists since opening in 2021. Over half identify as emerging, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, disabled, or low-income. OPW exhibitions highlight the diversity of the Bay Area and issues important to the community such as anti-Asian violence, oral traditions among Families of Color, and the work of Women and Non-Binary artists. A Guest Curator program ensures diversity in exhibitions and programs.
OPW is one of very few Bay Area galleries exhibiting photography exclusively, and the only gallery 100% committed to developing local artists and addressing community issues. OPW exhibitions have attracted significant media attention from KQED, Alta Magazine, SF Gate, Bay City News, and others.
Community Darkroom
Located just a few steps away from the 12th Street BART station in downtown Oakland, EBPCO’s community darkroom is a silver gelatin darkroom designed for teaching and preserving traditional film photography techniques. It is the first new public darkroom in the Bay Area in many years, filling a gap in publicly available creative facilities. It provides important support for photographers in need of a low-cost darkroom and is consistently used by BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, and low-income artists.
The EBPCO Community Darkroom facilities include:
B&W Film Processing
Four enlargers for silver gelatin printing in all formats
Print finishing facilities including dry mounting and mat cutting
Negative and print scanning
