WITH JENNY SAMPSON AT THE EBPCO COMMUNITY DARKROOM
This one-day session is designed for those who have had some previous experience in black & white photography, processing, and printing but have been away from it for some time. We will go through the process of black & white film processing and darkroom printing together as a refresher to these hands-on procedures. Participants must bring an exposed but unprocessed roll of film to work with for the class. All other materials for this course are provided by EBPCO!

It’s Photo Walk Time!
We will be meeting on the first Sunday of the month. Bring any camera you like, and be prepared to wander and shoot for up to an hour.
EBPCO’s bimonthly photo walks are a great way to connect with other photographers while exploring and photographing an interesting Oakland location.
Our photo walks are free and OPEN TO ALL! Bring your camera(s) and your creativity. All cameras welcome, including phones.

This session is open to EBPCO members only. If you don’t have a membership, you can start one HERE. Join us at Oakland Photo Workshop to share your photo projects and works in progress! These in-person sessions have proven to provide an engaging and supportive space for sharing constructive feedback on both individual images and more defined projects. Established EBPCO leaders offer fresh perspectives, and, along with like-minded peers, you will gain the experience of speaking about your own art and the art of others. We encourage participants in our workshops to attend and share what you made and are working on!

WITH SAKARA BIRDSONG AT THE EBPCO COMMUNITY DARKROOM
In this one-day workshop, participants will learn methods for manipulating and transferring Polaroid film. This includes transferring an image onto paper or glass and working to create collages out of polaroids with these materials. We’ll also learn how to safely experiment with everyday chemicals found in the pantry to create unconventional polaroid images. Participants are asked to bring a polaroid camera as well as some film (600 or I-type). All other materials are provided by EBPCO.

WITH VINCE DONOVAN AT OAKLAND PHOTO WORKSHOP
This one-day workshop will cover the basics of good portrait photography, including lighting, posing, hair, and makeup. Participants will work with a model and basic studio lighting set-ups to create a variety of portraits. This workshop is intended for photographers of all stripes, formats, and experience levels, including digital, film, and phone. Participants should bring their own digital camera, film camera, or camera phone, as well as memory cards, chargers, or film if applicable. All other equipment and materials will be provided by EBPCO!

Throughout the course, an instructor will guide you through the basics of darkroom processes, including processing black & white film, contact printing, enlargement printing, print finishing, and negative scanning. Participants must bring two exposed but unprocessed rolls of film to work with for the first class. All other materials for this course are provided by EBPCO!

For those who are new to film photography and looking to get started. In this course, an instructor will guide you through the basics of manual camera function and making images with black & white 35mm film, including ISO, aperture, shutter speed, light metering, focus, and more. This workshop will get you making images that can be sent out for processing or prepare you for your own processing work in the darkroom. Participants must bring their own 35mm camera.

This two-week advanced workshop is reserved for registered users of the EBPCO darkroom who want to take their printing to the next level. You'll learn techniques to work more efficiently and effectively in the darkroom to get consistently good prints with vivid blacks, rich mid-tones, and sparkling highlights! Participants must bring a selection of negatives and darkroom prints made at the EBPCO darkroom to the first class. All other materials for this course are provided by EBPCO!

WITH JENNY SAMPSON & JAN WATTEN AT OAKLAND PHOTO WORKSHOP
Learn the importance and the basics of framing and presenting your photographic work. This workshop will cover frame styles, colors and sizes; mat colors and borders; mat vs. no mat; glazing options (glass vs. plexi); finishing (hardware/wires, etc.) and how to present your work at portfolio reviews. Cutting windows in mat board will be demonstrated and attendees will have the opportunity to try cutting their own mat windows. Glass cutting can be demonstrated if there is interest and time.

WITH KELLY SULLIVAN AT OAKLAND PHOTO WORKSHOP
This 4 week course is for those who want to get started with digital photography and photo editing. Participants will learn to operate their digital cameras and receive a hands-on introduction to using Adobe Lightroom to edit their images. Topics covered include image making in manual, importing and exporting image files, and sorting and editing images both in batches as well as individually. Participants must bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera and laptop computer. Participants should either have an Adobe Lightroom subscription or be ready to start a temporary subscription on the first day of class.

WITH BRENNA HANSEN AT THE EBPCO COMMUNITY DARKROOM
Chemigrams are made by applying chemicals onto light sensitive photo paper. The results are unique, surprising, and seemingly endless depending on the materials used. In this one day workshop, we’ll experiment with a variety of materials including standard black & white chemistry, oils, waxes, jellies, vinegars, and more to create one of a kind chemigrams and chemilumens. All materials are provided by EBPCO, but participants may choose to bring some of their own photo paper and/or household pantry items to print with if they wish.

WITH BRENNA HANSEN AT THE EBPCO COMMUNITY DARKROOM
Luminograms are made by capturing the effects of manipulated light onto photosensitive paper. The results from this commonly overlooked darkroom process are limitless depending on the interventions made during exposure. In this workshop, learn the basics by using DIY modified light sources and experimenting with a variety of production methods, incorporating movement, layering, and intervention with optical components to create one of a kind prints. All materials are provided by EBPCO!

If you think a zine is just a printed pamphlet, get ready to open your mind! In this one day workshop, Jaya will present a variety of zine making techniques, ranging from the more “traditional” to the most unexpected and experimental formats. You’ll get a taste of what goes into digital zine layouts as well as getting hands-on with your own DIY zine mock up.
