Advanced Darkroom Printing
This two day advanced workshop is reserved for registered users of the EBPCO darkroom who want to take their printing to the next level. You'll learn techniques to work more efficiently and effectively in the darkroom to get consistently good prints.
Intro to Darkroom
4 week class for those who are comfortable shooting 35mm film but have no previous experience in a black & white darkroom. An instructor will guide you through the basics of darkroom processes, including film processing, contact printing, and enlargement printing.
Salt Printing
Salt printing uses salt and silver nitrate to produce a light sensitive emulsion. Learn the basics of this historical process, including making and coating light sensitive emulsion on paper and exposing with UV light.
Dr Philm Camera Repair
Bring your vintage film cameras and questions to this free workshop offering basic repairs, testing, maintenance and how-to advice from EPBCO member and film camera obsessive Philip Krayna (aka “Dr. Philm).
Matting & Framing
Learn the basics and the importance of framing and presenting your photographic work. This workshop will cover frame styles, mat styles, glazing options, finishing, cutting windows, and how to present your work at portfolio reviews.

Winter Critique Session
NEW! Join us at Oakland Photo Workshop to discuss your photo projects and works in progress. The goals of these in-person sessions are to create a supportive space to give and receive feedback on projects in all areas of photography currently being developed.
Chemigram Printing
Chemigrams are made by painting chemicals onto light sensitive photo paper. In this one day workshop, we’ll experiment with a variety of materials including standard photo chemistry, oils, waxes, jellies, vinegars, and more to create one of a kind chemigram prints.
Darkroom Print Finishing
In this one day workshop, an instructor will guide you through a variety of darkroom print finishing techniques. Topics covered include hand-retouching (aka spotting), pressing, and dry-mounting prints.
Brew Your Own Film Developer: Caffenol
We’re partnering with local roaster Rasa Caffe for this workshop, where participants will learn to process film with homemade Caffenol developer made from coffee. Includes a delicious cup of coffee from Rasa Caffe!
Polaroid Manipulation
Learn to manipulate and transfer Polaroid film onto paper or glass, create collages out of polaroids, and safely experiment with everyday chemicals found in the pantry to create unconventional polaroid images.

For those with previous experience with black & white film processing and printing but have been away from it for some time. Get a hands-on a refresher to these procedures.

Advanced Cyanotype: Textile Printing & Botanical Toning
This advanced workshop is reserved for those who’ve taken our cyanotype workshops or have their own previous cyanotype experience! Learn to print on fabric, tone prints with botanicals, and print with a DIY UV exposure unit. Participants will be asked to send in images to the instructor ahead of the workshop.

For those with an Adobe Lightroom subscription and a desire to learn more about this powerful editing tool. An instructor will guide you through the basics of digitally editing images in Lightroom, including importing image files, editing individual images, sorting and editing multiple images, and exporting image files.
Darkroom Refresher
For those who have had some previous experience in black & white photography, processing, and printing but have been away from it for some time. We will go through the process of black & white film processing and darkroom printing together as a refresher to these hands-on procedures.
DIY Lenticular Printing
Explore the mechanics behind lenticular technique and create a print that alters with the angle of the viewer. Portrait Photography Basics
Learn the basics of good portrait photography, including lighting, posing, hair, and makeup. Participants will work with a model and basic studio lighting set-ups to create a variety of portraits. Pinhole Photography
This workshop will introduce students to pinhole photography! Participants will learn how to construct their own pinhole cameras utilizing recycled everyday materials and use direct positive silver gelatin paper to create black and white prints directly from the cameras they built. Printing with Plant Developer
Delve deeper into the world of sustainable gelatin silver developing with plants by making darkroom prints using plant-based developers. In this workshop participants who have taken a Developing Film with plants workshop will have the opportunity to make prints from their negatives. They will have the option of bringing their own plant brews and/or choosing from a selection. Participants will also learn to mix chemistry and observe how their negatives respond to different developers.

Discover the time-honored technique of developing film negatives, not with conventional chemicals, but with the power of plants! This unique workshop will immerse you in the magic of alternative photography where art, science, and nature converge. In this hands-on workshop, Participants will work with developer brews made from California native and non-native plants, and are asked to bring 1-4 rolls of exposed black and white film for developing.
